Working for you, and for a better Wayne
Hi, I’m Dianne Douthat, and I’m a candidate for the Wayne Town Council. My husband Steve and I moved to Wayne in 2002 with our young son and daughter, but my connection to this town began a decade before that, as a Music Educator at Packanack Elementary School. As a young teacher, I admired the civic-mindedness of the parents and community here, and knew that I wanted to become a part of it.
Over the years, I’ve been involved in our schools as a volunteer Art Mom and Canteen Mom. Steve and I have been active members of the Wayne Valley Band Parent Association-- I’ve donated my time as a Uniform Mom, Pit Crew Member, and Snack Stand helper at football games.
I was also the proud leader of Girl Scout Troop 103, Service Unit Treasurer for the Wayne Girl Scouts, and I serve as a member of the Wayne League of Women Voters’ Board of Directors.
When Senator Bernie Sanders announced his candidacy in 2015, I became a lead organizer for a grassroots group called “NorthernNJ4Bernie,”and had the great honor of representing Senator Sanders in 2016 as a Delegate. We are moving forward now as Our Revolution, Passaic County. Our hundreds of members work to raise awareness, take action on issues affecting ordinary Americans, and increase voter turnout in North Jersey.
Taxpayer money should never be wasted— that‘s why, as a member of the Wayne Schools District Evaluation Advisory Committee, I pushed for an evaluation model that is both cost-effective and gets the job done, and which is still in use today. As Town Council Trustee, I will bring a fresh set of eyes to old problems, and seek alternatives that are both practical and economical.
Service is something I learned from my father, who was a World War 2 Veteran and Army Reservist. I have continued his legacy through community service and civic involvement, and I hope to build on that service, with your support, as a Ward 2 Trustee of the Wayne Town Council.
